Chattanooga Police arrest 28-year-old man following attempted bank robbery on East 23rd Street
Chattanooga, TN – According to the police officials, 28-year-old Raleigh Haney was taken into custody after an attempted robbery at the First Horizon Bank on East 23rd Street.
At 1:58 p.m., officers responded to a robbery call at the bank. Upon arrival, they learned that a witness had followed the suspect to the Chatt Inn on East 23rd Street and saw him enter a hotel room. Officers quickly located and detained the suspect.
CPD’s Robbery Unit launched an investigation, which revealed that Haney entered the bank wearing a red bandanna and holding what appeared to be a gun. He demanded money and instructed everyone to get on the ground.
During the incident, a security guard discharged her firearm in Haney’s direction but did not hit him. Haney then confronted the guard, stating, “I want my money and I will be back,” before leaving the scene.
A witness later saw Haney entering the hotel room, leading to his arrest. Robbery charges have been filed, and Haney was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
Authorities stated that the details of the case remain preliminary and could change as the investigation progresses.
