Code Orange air quality alert issued for Hamilton County due to elevated pollution levels
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Hamilton County on March 28, 2025.
The alert signifies that air pollution levels may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including individuals with lung diseases such as asthma, children and teenagers, older adults, and those who engage in strenuous outdoor activities for extended periods.
To reduce exposure, officials recommend:
– Opting for less intense activities, such as walking instead of running, to minimize heavy breathing.
– Limiting the duration of outdoor activities.
– Scheduling outdoor activities when air quality improves.
Additionally, all outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice to help prevent further air quality deterioration. Residents are encouraged to monitor air quality updates and take necessary precautions to protect their health.
