Chattanooga, TN – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men believed to be responsible for stealing three bronze plaques from the Sherman Reservation, located within the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park.

According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 12:01 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Park service investigators say two white males, both appearing to be in their mid-20s, removed the plaques—valued collectively at $18,000—from the site at 2419 North Crest Road. Surveillance and witness information suggest the suspects fled the scene in a late 1990s to early 2000s model green Ford F-150 extended cab truck, distinguished by a gray two-tone stripe along the bottom and a mismatched front driver’s side wheel.

One of the suspects was seen wearing a bright orange shirt resembling construction safety attire. Both individuals were described as having brown hair.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the suspects or the distinctive vehicle in the area to come forward. Information can be reported by calling 911 or contacting National Park Service Ranger Justin Young directly at 423-298-7437. A reward is being offered for information that leads to verified identification or recovery.

The Sherman Reservation is part of a protected military park dedicated to preserving Civil War history. Officials noted that the plaques are not only of high monetary value but also hold significant historical importance. The theft is under active investigation, and federal charges could be brought if the individuals are identified and apprehended.

Law enforcement agencies are reminding the public that tips can remain anonymous.
