Lane closure planned on US 64 near Cloud Branch for resurfacing project in Polk County
Chattanooga, TN – Drivers traveling along US 64 (State Route 40) in Polk County should prepare for temporary traffic delays next week as maintenance crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) conduct resurfacing work east of the Ocoee River.
From Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18, 2025, US 64 will be reduced to a single lane over Cloud Branch—approximately one mile east of the Ocoee River—between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Flaggers and uniformed police officers will be on-site to manage traffic flow and ensure safety throughout the project.
TDOT is advising motorists to exercise caution while traveling through the area and to anticipate potential delays. The work schedule is weather-dependent and could be postponed due to inclement conditions or unforeseen complications.
Travelers are reminded to check road conditions before heading out by using TDOT’s SmartWay map or by calling 511 for up-to-date travel information.
Officials also emphasized the importance of driving distraction-free and observing Tennessee’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over for emergency and maintenance vehicles. Violations can result in fines of up to $500 and jail time.
The resurfacing project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and infrastructure quality throughout the state.
