Tennessee – Drivers in Putnam County should prepare for lane closures along SR 136 (South Jefferson Avenue) as the Tennessee Department of Transportation begins work on a 2.3-mile project to widen and improve the roadway from I-40 to SR 111.

Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, and continuing through Oct. 31, 2025, traffic near the I-40 interchange will be reduced to one lane in both directions.

For northbound traffic, the single-lane section will begin at Williams Enterprise Drive and continue through Bunker Hill Road to the I-40 East overpass. Left turns onto Bunker Hill Road and right turns onto the I-40 East entrance ramp will remain open, with two lanes resuming after the overpass.

For southbound traffic, the single-lane section will start at the I-40 West overpass, continuing through the I-40 East intersection and Bunker Hill Road. A temporary right-turn lane to Bunker Hill Road will be available, and left turns onto the I-40 East entrance ramp will remain open.

TDOT is urging motorists to use caution, expect delays, and be mindful of workers in the construction zone. The schedule is weather-dependent and may change due to inclement weather or unforeseen conditions.

The agency reminds drivers to follow Tennessee’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations can result in fines of up to $500 and up to 30 days in jail.
