Tennessee – Less than a year after Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage across East Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced the reopening of the State Route 67/Broad Street Bridge in Carter County on July 2. The bridge had been closed for nine months following the storm.

The SR-67/Broad Street Bridge is a critical crossing for Elizabethton, Carter County, and the surrounding region, carrying over 22,650 vehicles daily. It serves as a key route for SR-67, SR-91, and US-321.

Of the 49 sections of state and local roads initially closed due to the hurricane’s impact in September 2024, 47 have now reopened. The only remaining closures are on SR-159/US-321 in Carter and Johnson Counties and the SR-353 bridge in Washington County.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution while crossing the reopened bridge, as temporary lane closures and construction workers may be present in the coming weeks. Michels Construction Co. led the $6.6 million repair project.

More details on ongoing recovery efforts can be found on the TDOT website.
