Tennessee National Guard supports recovery efforts after severe storms and tornadoes
Tennessee – Soldiers from Trenton’s 230th Engineer Battalion are actively supporting state, county, and local emergency responders in the aftermath of severe storms and tornadoes that recently swept through West and Middle Tennessee. The storms caused widespread flooding and property damage, prompting a coordinated emergency response across multiple counties.
At the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, more than 40 Guardsmen have been deployed to Paris, Trenton, and Union City to assist in recovery and relief operations. The 230th Engineer Battalion, known for its rapid-response capability, has been instrumental in helping affected communities manage the storm’s aftermath.
Equipped with Light Medium Tactical Vehicles, which are capable of navigating flooded areas, and a range of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, bobcats, dump trucks, and water buffalos, the unit is delivering critical aid and helping with cleanup and prevention efforts.
“We are always ready to support our state during an emergency,” said Maj. Christian Yoder, Executive Officer for the 230th Engineer Battalion. “We have an amazing team of combat engineers, as well as truck drivers, ready to assist.”
On Sunday, soldiers from the battalion used their LMTVs to deliver 240 cases of essential supplies to the Obion County Community Center. These supplies will support local residents in the days ahead as recovery continues. The unit also transported sandbag filling machines to Bogota and the city of Obion to aid in flood prevention.
Twelve soldiers were dispatched to Finley to help fill over 1,000 sandbags, which will be used to construct barriers and divert floodwaters away from vulnerable areas. The quick and efficient response of the battalion has been a critical part of the region’s storm recovery.
“We have numerous assets, and trained personnel, that we can provide to emergency responders,” said Maj. Yoder.
The 230th Engineer Battalion includes personnel from several local units: Union City’s 913th Engineer Company, Paris’ 212th Engineer Company, McKenzie’s 190th Engineer Company, and Huntingdon’s 890th Engineer Company. Together, these soldiers continue to provide essential support as Tennesseans begin rebuilding after the devastating storms.
