Two new members join Tennessee Sustainable Spirits program to reduce environmental impact, TDEC officials say
Chattanooga, TN – According to the TDEC officials, Mountain Valley Winery in Pigeon Forge and Tennfold Brewing in Nashville have joined the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits program.
This initiative recognizes businesses in the state’s spirits industry that are committed to reducing their environmental impact and operational costs by improving energy and natural resource use.
The TNSS program provides wineries, breweries, wine growers, and distilleries with technical assistance, aiming to help them enhance sustainability.
The production of spirits, beer, and wine involves significant water and energy consumption, while also generating byproducts that pose unique management challenges.
Water is a critical resource for these industries, forming the foundation of every beverage produced. As a result, Tennessee’s spirits producers are highly conscious of the need to conserve water, limit pollution from wastewater and stormwater discharges, and participate in local waterway cleanups.
Energy usage is another key focus, with distilleries and breweries relying on electric motors, chillers, and lighting systems, which creates a substantial demand for energy. Efforts to conserve energy, along with the need to responsibly manage industry-specific byproducts, are essential components of their sustainability initiatives.
By joining the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits program, Mountain Valley Winery and Tennfold Brewing are furthering their commitment to minimizing environmental impact and contributing to a greener future for the state’s beverage industry.
