CFD crews respond to overnight structure fire on 16th Avenue near the TN/GA line, family escapes safely
Chattanooga, TN – A Chattanooga family managed to safely escape their burning home early Sunday morning.
The Chattanooga Fire Department reported that crews were dispatched at 12:52 a.m. on August 31 to multiple reports of a residential structure fire in the 4800 block of 16th Avenue near the Tennessee–Georgia line.
When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire and immediately began attacking the flames.
Crews faced added challenges due to the distance of the nearest hydrant, requiring supply lines to be stretched from farther away.
Despite the workload, the fire was brought under control after crews worked at the scene for two and a half hours.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no injuries reported, and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
Units responding to the incident included Engine 9, Engine 1, Squad 1, Ladder 1, Ladder 5, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, the Chattanooga Fire Department Investigations Unit, and Training Division staff.
