Space heater caused overnight house fire on N Highland Park Avenue
Chattanooga, TN – A space heater sparked an overnight house fire in Chattanooga, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.
At 3:50 a.m. on December 10, 2025, Blue Shift companies were dispatched to the 700 block of N Highland Park Avenue for a residential structure fire.
Engine 4 arrived to find heavy smoke and visible flames, with fire showing from the back corner of the home.
The residents had already made it out safely before crews arrived. Firefighters launched an interior attack and conducted searches throughout the structure, finding no one inside.
The fire was brought under control by 4:07 a.m., and crews then checked the ceilings and walls for any extension.
According to the residents, they woke up to find their heater on fire beside their bed. They were able to get out and call 911. The Red Cross will assist the affected residents as they recover.
Engine 4, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Squad 1, Engine 1, Battalion 1 and Battalion 3 responded to the scene.
Fire officials reminded the public to plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet and avoid overloading electrical sources.
