Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire Department crews acted quickly Sunday night to stop a fire at a downtown hotel from spreading to other rooms and floors.

At about 8:52 p.m. on January 25, Red Shift companies were dispatched to the DoubleTree hotel at 407 Chestnut Street after reports of a fire.

When firefighters arrived, they observed flames coming from a window on the eighth floor of the building. Due to the nature of the location and the presence of multiple occupants, a second and third alarm were immediately requested to ensure adequate resources were available.

Firefighters launched an aggressive attack on the fire and were able to extinguish it within approximately 15 minutes, officials said. While crews worked to contain the blaze, other firefighters began evacuating guests from unaffected floors as a precaution. Those evacuations were carried out safely and efficiently, allowing firefighters to focus on suppression and safety checks.

Once the fire was under control, third-alarm companies were canceled as remaining crews conducted a secondary sweep of the hotel to ensure no additional hazards or hidden fire remained. Firefighters also deployed multiple tarps inside the building to help protect and salvage guests’ belongings from smoke and water damage.

Fire officials reported that no injuries occurred as a result of the incident. Investigators on the scene determined that a wall heater was the cause of the fire.

The Chattanooga Fire Department credited the quick response and coordinated efforts of multiple companies for preventing the fire from spreading further in the multi-story hotel and minimizing damage.
