Chattanooga, TN – Powerful storms swept through Chattanooga on Saturday night, leaving a trail of destruction that kept local emergency responders busy into the early morning hours. The Chattanooga Fire Department reported a surge in weather-related incidents, including trees downed across roadways, structural damage from falling limbs, lightning strikes to homes, downed power lines, and localized flooding.
Crews from the department’s Red Shift worked tirelessly throughout the night, responding to dozens of calls across the city. Officials urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant in the aftermath, emphasizing the dangers of storm-related hazards.
“We’re seeing a wide range of incidents—trees on homes, live wires down, flooded streets. It’s crucial that people stay away from downed lines and avoid driving through floodwaters,” a department spokesperson said.
Power outages were also reported in several neighborhoods. The fire department reminded residents using generators to operate them safely and follow all manufacturer guidelines to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and fire risks.
Despite challenging conditions, firefighters continued to assist those in need and ensure public safety. “Thank you to our Red Shift companies for their dedication and hard work during this emergency,” the department posted on social media.
Emergency officials encouraged residents to check on neighbors, stay informed through local alerts, and report any unsafe conditions to authorities. Clean-up and damage assessment are expected to continue over the next several days.
