Father, who claims he placed baby wipe on the baby’s chest, but prosecutors say he intentionally shoved the wipe down the child’s throat, was sentenced
Columbus, OHIO – According to the court documents, the young dad, later identified as 20-year-old Traveon, was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of the murder of his newborn baby. Prosecutors said the father was sentenced with the possibility of parole after 15 years. Jury found the defendant guilty of multiple charges, including: murder, involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment charges.
According to the court documents, the 3-month-old baby, the same name as his dad, was born prematurely in 2022. In June same year, the newborn baby was found unresponsive and first responders reportedly found baby wipe in the baby’s throat.
Prosecutors said that the child was too little to ingest the wipe by himself. The defendant’s attorney argued that his client didn’t put or shoved a baby wipe down his baby’s throat. During the trial, the defendant told prosecutors that he was the sole carer of the baby on the fatal day.
The young dad reportedly said that he put baby wipe on the baby’s chest and went into different room. While he was in another room, the young father left the baby unattended for a short period of time. When the father returned, he reportedly discovered that the child was choking and called 911.
