CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that occurred Tuesday night on Interstate 24 Eastbound.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. to the 100 block of I-24 EB for a crash involving entrapment. The department’s Traffic/DUI Unit responded to lead the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate a passenger vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic.

The Chattanooga Fire Department extricated two occupants from the vehicle. The driver, a 31-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 37-year-old man, was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

The Chattanooga Police Department thanked the East Ridge Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their assistance at the scene.
