Chattanooga police officer charged with DUI after two-vehicle crashes while off duty
Chattanooga, TN – An off-duty Chattanooga Police Department officer is under investigation following two separate DUI-related crashes that occurred late Saturday night, according to authorities. Officer Mackenzie Pierre, a Neighborhood Policing Officer with the CPD since 2019, now faces multiple charges stemming from the incidents.
The crashes occurred on June 1, 2025, shortly before midnight. Chattanooga Police responded first to a collision in the 4200 block of Bonny Oaks Drive and then to a second, related crash in the 4300 block of Highway 58. Investigators say the events unfolded after Officer Pierre, driving a blue SUV, ran a red light and struck a stationary vehicle waiting at the signal on Bonny Oaks Drive.
The driver of the struck vehicle pursued Pierre’s SUV along Bonny Oaks Drive. As Pierre attempted to cross Highway 58 to merge onto Highway 153 North, his vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a car traveling westbound on Highway 58. The impact caused Pierre’s SUV to cross the median and come to a stop in the grass at the bottom of the Highway 153 exit ramp.
Responding officers immediately recognized the driver as Officer Pierre and alerted the department’s Traffic and DUI Unit. Pierre showed signs of impairment and was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
No other individuals required hospital transport, though one person was assessed on scene by Chattanooga Fire and EMS.
Pierre has been formally charged with **Driving Under the Influence**, **Leaving the Scene of a Crash**, and **Failure to Yield Right of Way**. The police department placed him on administrative leave the following day, June 2, pending the results of an Internal Affairs investigation. CPD emphasized that Pierre was not on duty and was not driving a city-owned vehicle at the time of the crashes.
The Internal Affairs investigation is running separately from the ongoing criminal and traffic investigations. CPD noted that all details remain preliminary and subject to change as new information emerges.
The department encourages anyone with information about the incidents to contact the Chattanooga Police Department at **423-698-2525**.
