Chattanooga reports significant reductions in gun violence, citing data that reflects improvements in public safety across the city
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department reported substantial declines in gun-related violence in 2025, citing data that reflects improvements in public safety across the city.
According to police statistics, criminal homicides decreased by 48 percent last year, while non-fatal shootings dropped by 26 percent. The department also reported a homicide clearance rate of 94 percent, indicating that the vast majority of homicide cases were solved.
Police officials noted that while many cities nationwide experienced a decline in homicides, Chattanooga’s reduction was more than double the national average decrease of approximately 20 percent. The department attributed the results to its continued emphasis on intelligence-led, data-driven, and community-focused policing strategies.
Officials also pointed to investments in technology, including the Real Time Intelligence Center, the Crime Gun Intelligence Center, and the use of drones, as key factors in improving investigative efficiency and response capabilities.
The department acknowledged the role of local and federal law enforcement partners, as well as the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office, in contributing to the reduction of gun violence throughout the city.
