Fire breaks out during demolition at Chattanooga industrial site, quickly extinguished
Chattanooga, TN – A fire broke out Thursday morning during demolition work behind the Sofix Corporation, prompting a commercial fire response from the Chattanooga Fire Department.
According to officials, crews were dispatched around 9 a.m. on May 29, 2025, to the 2800 block of Riverport Road, where workers dismantling a racking system reportedly ignited a fire involving rubber belts and other materials.
Firefighters from the department’s Red Shift companies arrived on scene and quickly deployed suppression efforts. Engine 10 utilized its master stream to successfully extinguish the flames.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the demolition area. The cause remains under investigation.
Authorities have not reported any significant damage to nearby structures. Operations at the site have since resumed.
The Chattanooga Fire Department reminded businesses conducting demolition or construction work to follow proper safety protocols and monitor flammable materials to prevent similar incidents.
