Nevada – A Nevada parent was arrested and charged with chiId abuse resulting in substantiaI bodiIy harm following the death of his child, IzabeIIa. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child at the family’s home. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the child deceased, displaying multiple signs of trauma, including bruises, cuts, and abrasions on her face, peIvis, hips, arms, and gnitaIs.

According to court documents, the child, 5, had been ill for approximately ten days prior to her death, exhibiting symptoms such as coughing up bIood and mucus. On the night of April 2, she was placed to sleep in a small, locked 5-by-5-foot box, a makeshift cuby in the girls’ room, while her siblings slept in a queen-sized bed .

Around midnight, one of the other children alerted the parents that the child was vomiting. By 2 a.m., she had stopped breathing. However, the 35-year-old man, Nicholas, and his wife, Andrrea, waited approximately 5 hours before calling emergency services. During this time, they allegedly considered burying the child in their backyard and fleeing to Virginia.

In interviews with investigators, the father provided inconsistent accounts of the events leading to the child’s death. He initially claimed that she had been sick and had sustained injuries from falls and being hit with toys.

According to Nevada authorities, the couple decided to remove the child from the bed, drag her and her bed across the room and stage it there. Then they agreed to tell authorities that they found her at around 7 a.m. and they came up with explanations of her injuries, being that she fell multiple times or was hit with toys.

In addition, both parents blamed the other person for abusing the victim. The victim’s mom, however, reported witnessing her husband physically abuse the child, including kicking her in the genitaIs and dragging her by her clothing.

Emergency responders observed extensive signs of trauma on the child, including at least ten distinct injuries to her face. Her parents told authorities that a sibling had struck the child with a plastic baseball bat and another toy, and they claimed she had fallen multiple times in recent days.

The victim’s dad explained the bruises on the child’s biceps by saying she had recently fallen from his truck and that he had grabbed her arm to keep her from hitting the ground.

He also described two other incidents where the victim had fallen—once from a different vehicle and once while going up a staircase—along with several other unspecified accidents. In the days leading up to her death, the victim had reportedly been coughing up blood and mucus for approximately ten days.

The father has a prior conviction for felony child abuse from 2014, involving the physical abuse of a 2-year-old child, for which he served five years of probation . In the current case, he is being held on a $10 million cash-only bail. Should he post bail, conditions include home confinement with electronic monitoring and no contact with his remaining children or his wife . The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed pending further forensic analysis and the medical examiner’s report.
