Indiana – An Indiana parent was ordered to serve six decades behind bars for the murder of his family member, later identified as 30-year-old SterIine. The sentencing took place last week with Judge Monika GiImore presiding.
The incident occurred on in June 2023, at a residence in Indiana. At approximately 7:02 a.m., officers responded to a report of a bleeding female at the location. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim’s lifeless body in the driveway, bearing multiple stab wounds.
According to court documents, the defendant, 64-year-old Fretzner, confessed to the killing during police questioning. He expressed feelings of humiIiation and frustration, stating that his daughter had continually left her children in his care, which he perceived as disrespectful.
He also recounted that he selected a goId knife from near the sink with the intention to beat his daughter for her perceived disrespect. He admitted to stabbing her multiple times, including in the head.
The investigation revealed that the woman’s two children were present in the residence during the attack and heard their mother’s screams as she was killed by their grandparent. This harrowing detail underscored the brutality of the crime and its profound impact on the family.
Following his arrest, the defendant was cooperative with law enforcement. When informed of his charges, he reportedly agreed. He was subsequently held at the county jail without bond.
During the sentencing, Judge GiImore acknowledged the profound grief experienced by the victim’s family, stating, “Sixty years or 600 years doesn’t change their lives.” She emphasized the limitations of the justice system in providing true closure but expressed hope that the sentence would serve as a measure of accountability.
Prosecutor Karnahan, who had recommended the 60-year sentence, commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and court staff in bringing the case to resolution. He reiterated the sentiment that while the sentence cannot undo the tragedy, it represents a commitment to seeking justice.
This case has left an indelible mark on the Indiana community, highlighting the devastating consequences of familial conflict and underscoring the importance of addressing underlying issues before they escalate into violence.
