Wisconsin – A Wisconsin woman was arrested last week and charged with one count of chiId negIect resuIting in death in the death of her 3-year-old chiId, Daquarius, court records show. Prosecutors say the case stems from injuries the child suffered that medical examiners have determined were not accidentaI.

Police were called to the Wisconsin home last week after the parent reported finding her toddIer unresponsive. First responders took the boy to Children’s Wisconsin, where he was later pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the death was a homicide consistent with non-accidental trauma.

Investigators obtained and reviewed a search warrant and other court documents that describe significant internal injuries, including a large hemorrhage in the beIIy area. Medical staff and examiners told Wisconsin authorities the bIeeding and injuries were inconsistent with an accidental fall or routine childhood accident. The warrant described circumstances investigators said showed a severe disregard for the child’s welfare.

Wisconsin authorities say the mother called 911 after she found the child foaming at the mouth and unresponsive. In early court proceedings she told officers the child had not had any recent accidents that would explain the injuries. According to the criminal complaint and media reports, the woman said she had been working the night before at a local establishment and that an upstairs neighbor was watching her children; investigators say that neighbor was not present at the home at the time the child was found.

On the night before the incident, the mom and her partner reportedly stayed at their home until around midnight before leaving the five children alone to get something to eat. They returned briefly but left again so the woman could work at a local establishment until early morning, during which time her friend was not home and did not supervise the children. Later that morning, the mother said her partner was asleep in the bedroom when she took the school-age children to the bus and then went to the store.

When she returned, she found her 3-year-old child asleep on the couch. After taking a shower, she discovered he was unresponsive and foaming at the mouth, prompting her to call 911. This timeline shows that the children were left unattended overnight and that the child was left in the care of her partner while she ran errands.

Wisconsin authorities identified one other adult in the residence, the’s partner, Markus. Police have said the woman and her partner are the two people of interest in the investigation. Court records from the initial appearance show a commissioner describing the case as involving “a significant injury” that resulted in substantial internaI bIeeding. The woman appeared in court and had her bond set at $50,000.

A GoFundMe created by a family member to help cover funeral expenses was cited in local reports. Neighbors and relatives interviewed by reporters described the family as reeling and said they wanted answers about what happened to the child; those accounts were included as part of news coverage but do not replace the formal investigative findings.
