Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department has arrested 31-year-old Joseph Tanner Smith in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred early Saturday morning on Lindsay Avenue.

At approximately 5:32 a.m. on June 29, CPD officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 600 block of Lindsay Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 37-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds and the suspect with a head injury. Both were transported by Hamilton County EMS to a hospital, where the victim later died from his injuries.

According to CPD, a preliminary investigation indicates the incident began as a disagreement between the two men that escalated into a violent altercation. No other individuals were reported injured.

Following the investigation by CPD’s Homicide Unit and processing of the scene by the Crime Scene Unit, Smith was charged with criminal homicide and booked into the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
