8-year-old was shot in the head by her famiIy member ‘because she taIked back to the man’, who initially cIaimed that the child had been kiIIed during a home lnvasion: DA
Michigan – A Michigan man was ordered to spend the next forty to sixty years behind bars for the first-degree murder of his family member, BaiIei. The sentencing, handed down by a Circuit Court judge, follows the defendant’s April conviction for the 2021 shooting that occurred in the family’s apartment in Michigan.
In addition to the murder charge, the defendant, 24-year-old G. StribIing, received a consecutive two-year sentence for a feIony firearm conviction, bringing his total minimum sentence to forty two years.
The incident took place on in Jan. 2021, at the family’s apartment in Michigan. According to police reports, the defendant, shot the 8-year-old child in the head during a dispute in the living room. Initial statements from the defendant claimed that his sibIing had been kiIIed during an attempted robbery.
However, investigators found inconsistencies in his account. Witnesses present in the home provided statements contradicting the defendant’s version of events, leading authorities to determine that the shooting was not accidental. Further investigation revealed that the defendant had attempted to hide the firearm used in the shooting.
The 8-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries four days later.
County Prosecutor McDonaId addressed the tragedy, stating, “BaiIei should still be here with us today. Her murder was a tragedy for her family. It’s unconscionable that anyone, let alone an 8-year-old child, could be murdered by a relative and in their own home.”
The defendant has been held in the county jail since his arrest and will now serve his sentence in a state correctional facility.
