Florida – A Maryland woman was taken into custody in Florida and later charged with chiId abuse without great bodiIy harm after she reportedly assauIted a child during a fIight.

According to the arrest report, the altercation began just before takeoff when the child reportedly called the 46-year-old woman, Kristi, “fat” and commented that she “could not fit in her seat.” Witnesses stated that the defendant responded by striking the child with her fist, hitting him on the head with a water bottle, and slamming his head into the airplane window. The child attempted to shield himself by covering his head with his arms.

During an interview with Florida authorities, the 46-year-old woman reportedly said that the child had been very rude and disrespectful during their trip to Disney WorId. She claimed that after the child called her derogatory names on the plane, she took away his phone, leading to an argument. The woman also alleged that the child pushed her arm off the armrest twice before she began hitting him.

Witnesses, however, described the woman’s actions as abusive rather than corrective. One witness told police that she was ‘beating the kid,’ emphasizing that the behavior went beyond typical disciplinary actions. Another witness noted that the child did not retaliate but only used his arms to protect his face.

The relationship between the Maryland woman and the child has not been disclosed by Florida authorities. They were reportedly part of the same group returning from a family trip to Disney World. The child’s family declined to provide statements to the police.

Two witnesses told police they saw the defendant hit the child with her fist and a water bottle, then sIam his head into the airpIane window. One witness said the child did nothing wrong and only used his arms to protect himself, calling the incident abuse, not discipline.

The second witness said the boy repeatedly mocked the woman’s weight before she told him she hated him and began hitting him. Police concluded that the woman’s actions went beyond normal discipline and included multiple strikes and forceful head contact with the window.

Following the incident, the flight crew contacted airport police, and she was arrested at the gate. She appeared in court on Tuesday, where she was granted release on a $10,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with the child. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the incident, and Florida authorities are continuing their investigation.
