Tennessee hit a record low for statewide unemployment last month, with a seasonally adjusted rate dropping to 3% for the first time

Chattanooga, TN – According to the latest county unemployment data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, all 95 counties in the state reported unemployment rates at or below 4.4% during the same period.

Eighty-six counties experienced slight increases in their unemployment rates in May, while three counties saw decreases, and six counties maintained unchanged rates from April.

Sevier and Williamson counties boasted the lowest unemployment rates statewide at 2.1% in May.

Sevier County’s rate held steady from the previous month, while Williamson County saw a minor increase of 0.1 percentage points.

Following closely, Moore County reported a 2.2% unemployment rate, consistent with April figures.

Conversely, Bledsoe County recorded the highest unemployment rate in the state at 4.4%, marking a 0.5 percentage point increase from April to May.

McNairy County followed with a 4.2% rate, up by 0.5 percentage points, while Lauderdale and Scott counties each reported 4.1% rates, reflecting increases of 0.1 and 0.5 percentage points, respectively.
