Lightning strike suspected in apartment fire that displaced multiple families in Hixson
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a two-alarm apartment fire Sunday night at the Marina Pointe Apartments in Hixson, where a lightning strike is believed to have sparked the blaze.
According to officials, crews were dispatched at approximately 7:22 p.m. on May 24, 2026, after reports of smoke coming from the roof of a building in the 5750 Lake Resort Drive complex. Residents, along with assisting law enforcement, helped evacuate the building as firefighters began suppression efforts.
A second alarm was requested to bring additional resources to the scene. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and later conducted overhaul operations, working to salvage belongings and limit additional damage to lower-floor units.
Officials reported no injuries to civilians or firefighters. At least three to four families were displaced as a result of the fire.
Multiple agencies assisted on scene, including the Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County EMS, and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Service Rehab Unit, along with additional mutual aid partners.
