Chattanooga, TN – On June 8, 2025, firefighters from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a fire at the Motel 6 located at 7707 Lee Highway following reports of smoke coming from a hotel room window. The call came in at 11:25 a.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, fire crews found no visible smoke as the fire had extinguished itself due to lack of oxygen. The occupant had barricaded himself inside the room, prompting firefighters to stage nearby while Chattanooga Police officers made entry.

Inside the room, the man was found deceased, with smoke inhalation suspected as the cause. Both Chattanooga Fire Department and Police Department investigators are currently examining the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

The fire is still under investigation, and authorities continue to gather information.
