Missouri – A Missouri man, K. PautIer, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminaI action following the fatal shooting of his spouse, Karren. The County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed the charges, and the 73-year-old man is currently being held without bond at the county jail.
Deputies responded to the couple’s residence in Missouri around 2:18 p.m. after receiving a call from a relative reporting that the 73-year-old had shot his spouse.
Upon arrival, he met the deputies at the door, allowed them entry, and directed them to the firearm used in the incident. Inside, authorities discovered the victim deceased on the bedroom floor, suffering from gunshot wounds to her lower back and upper arm.
During an interview with investigators, she stated that his wife had been experiencing mental health issues and that he had become overwheImed and exhaustted from caring for her.
He expressed that he did not want her to die in a nurslng home and decided to end her life himself. He claimed to have chosen a specific firearm cartridge and aimed for particular areas to ensure a quick and humane death.
The probable cause statement indicated that the 73-year-old man had made multiple remarks about not wanting to live and expressed a desire to end his own life to be with his wife. As of now, no court date has been scheduled for his initial appearance.
Under Missouri law, a first-degree murder conviction carries a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The charge of armed criminal action is an unclassified felony, punishable by a minimum of three years in prison.
