Chattanooga announces multiple road closures and restrictions in the upcoming days for events, UTC move-in, and construction
Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga officials announced multiple road closures and restrictions scheduled for next week due to special events, university move-in activities, and construction projects.
On Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., several streets near Finley Stadium will be closed, including Chestnut Street, Reggie White Boulevard, and West 19th Street. The westbound right lane of West 20th Street between Chestnut Street and Main Street will also be closed. In addition, for the Cocoa Café Farmers Market, Alton Park Boulevard northbound between West 38th Street and West 40th Street will be closed on Friday, August 8, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
UTC’s freshman move-in will bring additional closures from Tuesday, August 12, at 5 p.m. through Thursday, August 14, at 3 p.m. Streets affected during this time include 8th Street between Douglas Street and University Street, as well as Vine Street between Douglas Street and Houston Street. On August 13 and 14, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., O’Neal Street between 3rd Street and 5th Street, 5th Street between Central Avenue and O’Neal Street, and O’Neal Street between McCallie Avenue and 5th Street will also be impacted, with partial closures allowing limited access for local traffic and emergency vehicles.
Parking restrictions will be in place during the same period on 8th Street between University Street and Palmetto Street, and on McCallie Avenue between Campus Drive and University Greenway.
Construction work will also affect traffic on Ely Road, with the 1300 block closed to all vehicles from Monday, August 11, through Friday, August 14, for emergency sewer repairs. Detours will be posted, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra travel time.
