Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire Department crews responded to an apartment complex after a malfunction with a pool chlorine injection system caused elevated chlorine levels in the pool house, prompting several people to be evaluated for possible exposure.
Blue shift crews were dispatched at approximately 8:45 a.m. to the Reserve at Mountain Pass apartment complex in the 4900 block of Central Avenue after reports of the issue, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.
Officials said the malfunctioning pool equipment resulted in increased chlorine levels inside the pool house. Several individuals were evaluated after inhaling chlorine vapors, with one person transported for additional evaluation. Others were assessed at the scene.
No serious injuries were reported.
Firefighters secured the area and determined the incident was caused by a mechanical issue involving the pool equipment. The pool and affected area remain closed while repairs are completed and the system is confirmed to be safe for use.
The Chattanooga Fire Department responded with multiple specialized units, including CFD Special Operations, Hazmat 1, Squad 1, Engine 14, Battalion 1, Ladder 5, Squad 19, Ladder 21, and Engine 9.
Officials reminded residents that the area will remain closed until the necessary repairs are completed and safety checks are conducted.
