Fire crews rescue 88-year-old man after 50-foot fall on Missionary Ridge using rope system and Stokes basket
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department conducted a rope rescue Wednesday evening after an elderly man fell approximately 50 feet in the Missionary Ridge area.
Fire crews were dispatched at 8:19 p.m. to the 310 block of North Crest Road, where Green Shift companies learned that an 88-year-old man had fallen down a steep embankment and was located at the bottom of the slope.
Officials said firefighters established a rope system and used a Stokes basket to safely raise the man from the embankment.
The patient was transported to a hospital by Hamilton County EMS with minor injuries.
Fire officials said the man had been attempting to retrieve a ball that had gone over the edge into a neighboring yard when the fall occurred.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including Squad 13, Squad 1, Engine 4, Engine 15, Battalion 2, Medic 11, and officers from the Chattanooga Police Department.
Officials said the rescue was completed safely without further incident.
