According to the court documents, the 30-year-old mother was sentenced on Monday to 8 to 11 years in prison for the February 2020 death of her 6-month-old son. The child was found dead in a cemetery. An autopsy determined the boy died from hypothermia from being exposed to below-freezing temperatures. Investigators who were looking for the missing mother and child said at the time that she was possibly suffering from mental health issues.

The 30-year-old mother from North Carolina, Tamara Brown, was initially charged with murder, prosecutors said. She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felony child abuse and common law robbery.

Her 6-month-old son, Chi-Liam Cody Brown-Erickson, was found dead at Sharon Memorial Park cemetery on February 22, 2020, days after he was seen alive, according to reports.

After her sentence, the mother must complete 36 months of probation.

Prosecutors said the mother must serve an extra 13 to 25 months in prison if she violates the terms of her probation.

Investigators who were looking for the missing mother and child said at the time that “she was possibly suffering from mental health issues.”

Few days before the 6-month-old boy was found, the 30-year-old mom was arrested for stealing a man’s iPhone and biting and spitting at police officers.

During an interview with investigators, the woman reportedly refused to tell authorities where her son was located.

An autopsy determined the boy died from hypothermia from being exposed to below-freezing temperatures.
