Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect accused of using a fraudulent bank check and identification to purchase a vehicle.

According to the department, the incident happened in May when the suspect allegedly used convincing fraudulent documents to complete the purchase of a car. The victim did not discover the check was fake until after depositing it.

By the time the fraud was discovered, the vehicle and suspect were no longer at the location.

Chattanooga Police said anyone with information that could help identify the suspect is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (423) 698-3333.

The department said information leading to an identification could result in a reward of up to $5,000.

Officials continue to encourage residents to remain cautious during private transactions and verify payment methods before completing vehicle sales or other high-value exchanges.
