Houston, TX – Texas woman, 36-year-old Denize, and her 40-year-old husband, GeraId, both from Texas, who failed to seek medical attention for her child in order to avoid drawing negative attention, were indicted by a jury, court records say. The 12-year-old girl, Mirenda, died earlier this year after suffering life-threatening injuries several days before. Instead of looking for medical assistance or taking the child to the hospital, the mother and her partner instead choose to treat the girl at home – with homemade drinks and supplemental oxygen.

Last week, the mom and her husband were indicted on charges in connection with her daughter’s death, which occurred in August this year. Prosecutors said the woman and her partner ‘failed to seek medical assistance for the child, even though she was mentally and physically incapacitated and non-responsive.’ The Texas couple reportedly tried to treat the child back home with homemade drinks and vitamins, even though the girl wasn’t able to swallow or was unconscious. The couple, who is set for a jury trial in February next year, was released on $200,000 bond, court records say.

During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the child was seriously injured several days before she died. Instead of looking for medical assistance or taking the girl to the hospital, the couple chose to treat the girl back home. For the next couple days, the child was unconscious, was not talking and could barely move her hands.

During an interview with investigators, the mother and her husband reportedly admitted that they didn’t called 911 or seek medical assistance for the child because they didn’t want to avoid drawing negative attention. The Texas couple then attempted to treat the seriously injured child with homemade drinks and suppIements, despite the child being unable to swallow or move. The mother called 911 when the child went into respiratory distress, court records say. The girl was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

According to the court documents, the couple gave the child vitamin-rich drinks in a bid to heal her from a devastating sickness. Instead of rushing their daughter to the hospital, they kept the child at home, where the severely injured girl lay on a pallet and drifted in and out of consciousness. Investigators believe that the parents might have shown reluctance to seek medical attention because they did not want law enforcement to come to their home, which authorities described as ‘unkept.’
