Chattanooga, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has awarded Anderson County a $20,000 grant through the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program.

The funds will help Anderson County identify priority sites for redevelopment, addressing blighted or underutilized properties with potential contamination. This grant is part of 36 brownfield redevelopment grants announced across Tennessee in July.

The BRAG program, funded through the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, aims to protect the environment and foster economic growth, particularly in rural areas. The initiative equips local governments and development boards with resources for investigating, cleaning up, and redeveloping brownfield sites.

Brownfields are properties left vacant or underused due to contamination concerns. Remediation efforts not only safeguard public health and the environment but also encourage economic investment in affected areas.
