Tennessee State Parks launched new program aimed at teaching fundamental outdoor skills to new visitors eager to explore the state’s natural beauty
Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, this initiative is called the Tennessee State Parks “How To” series and is reportedly designed for individuals unfamiliar with the parks or new to outdoor recreation. It offers introductory-level sessions on activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, and fishing, providing newcomers with the basics they need to enjoy these experiences.
The first skill-building sessions will take place at Pickwick Landing State Park, starting on September 7. These sessions will be free of charge, and all necessary equipment will be provided to participants.
The program has received a $15,000 grant from Ford’s Bronco Wild Fund, which will support various aspects of the initiative. One featured program, “How To Explore,” teaches participants how to navigate the parks, select the best park and trail for their needs, whom to contact in an emergency, how to use a map, and other essential skills.
In addition to the “How To Explore” program, there are seven other sessions focused on hiking, camping, stargazing, backpacking, kayaking, fishing, and bird watching.
The sessions will be held twice a month from September through December, with each session limited to 20 participants.
