Grandparent believed ‘her family was trying to take all of her money and then leave’ when she intentionally shot her infant grandchild in the head right after she shot at several family members at the home; convicted
Columbus, OH – According to the court documents, the 43-year-old defendant, later identified as Miia, pleaded guilty to felony assault and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, and is now facing 15 years behind bars after she reportedly grabbed a gun and fired at several family members before intentionally shooting her own grandchiId. This unfortunate incident occurred in December last year, court records say.
The investigation process began after the victim’s mom called 911 and told the dispatcher that her baby was shot in the head. First responders rushed the 6-month-old child to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Luckily, the baby survived. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the 43-year-old woman grabbed a gun and fired at her family members before she shot the little baby on purpose.
During the incident, the woman also punched another family member with a fist, leaving the unidentified person injured. Shortly after the incident, the woman fled the scene. She was taken into custody one hour later. During an interview with investigators, the 43-year-old defendant reportedly said that’s ‘not her grandchiId’ and her family members wanted to take her money and then leave. The woman also told investigators that she wasn’t going to let that happen.
Sheriff Richard released the following statement: “It wasn’t an accident. It was on purpose. What makes it even worse is this is the baby’s grandmother. She went and shot this child and doesn’t appear to have any remorse whatsoever. I feel sorry for the baby, the family, everybody that’s dealing with this.”
