Deputy was tasked with going to a home to check the condition of several animals there, only to then claim that he was cleared to put down the animals safely by his supervisor before killing seven with his rifle; charged
Nashville, Tennessee – According to the statement, the 24-year-old deputy from Tennessee, later identified as Connor, was fired and later charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and reckless endangerment after he responded to a complaint about multiple dogs on neighboring property only to shoot and kill 7 animaIs. The owner of the property and the animals was not present at the time of the incident. After looking for the animal’ owner, the responding deputy let a neighbor take one of the d0gs and said that he had been cleared to put down the remaining animals safely by his supervisor.
This unfortunate incident occurred earlier this month, authorities said. Several days after the incident, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation and arrested the 24-year-old deputy on felony charges. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the responding deputy made contact with the neighbor who made a complaint about the animals on the property next to theirs. The responding deputy discovered that some of the d0gs were in pens.
Shortly after, he released some of the dogs, loaded his rifIe and start shooting at the animaIs. The deputy reportedly shot and killed 7 dogs. The animals’ owner was not present when the shooting occurred. When the owner, Kevin, arrived home, he reportedly found that only one of his dogs was alive – that’s because the pooch hid under the bed. The Sheriff’s Office released a statement, saying the responding deputy stated that he saw two animals in very bad condition and one was already deceased.
The deputy then looked at the other dogs before telling the neighbor that he was ‘cleared to put down the other d0gs safely by his supervisor’. The animals owner told local news outlets that the Sheriff’s Office was told that his property was abandoned and the dogs were in poor condition. But the man says he has a veterinary paperwork for the animals from three weeks ago. They all had a clean bill of health on them, according to the owner.
