Tennessee – Drivers planning to travel near the I-75 at I-24 interchange in Hamilton County this weekend are advised to prepare for significant delays due to a major road construction project by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

As part of Phase 2 of TDOT’s ongoing effort to widen and improve the I-75/I-24 interchange, contract crews will implement a full directional closure of I-24 West to connect newly constructed roadways to the existing elevation. The closure will begin at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday, June 20, 2025, and is expected to last until 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The affected stretch of I-24 West runs from the Belvoir Avenue bridge to the I-24 West entrance ramp at Germantown Road. During this time, westbound traffic will be rerouted onto North Terrace at Oriole Drive, then back onto I-24 West via the Germantown Road entrance ramp. North Terrace will be closed to through traffic at Belvoir Avenue, with clearly marked detours in place.

Additionally, on Friday, June 20, between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. ET, North Terrace will be reduced to a single lane between Belvoir Avenue and Germantown Road to allow for the setup of traffic control measures.

Once completed, the project will introduce a new, permanent entrance ramp to I-24 West near Marlboro Avenue. Traffic on I-24 East will not be affected by this construction.

TDOT has stated that the closure will remain in effect until all work is completed safely. Motorists are strongly encouraged to consider alternate routes and avoid the area if possible, as heavy congestion is anticipated. Uniformed police officers will be on site to assist with traffic management and ensure public safety.

The schedule for this work is weather-dependent. If inclement weather or other unforeseen issues arise, the closure may be postponed and rescheduled.

TDOT reminds all drivers to check traffic conditions before heading out by using the TDOT SmartWay Map or calling 511 for travel updates. Officials also caution against distracted driving, urging motorists to avoid texting, tweeting, or making calls while behind the wheel.
