Woman didn’t tell her daughter what happened to her grandparent right after she killed her, only said they had to get rid of the DNA by using acid before attempting to burn the remains on a griII; trial
Washington, D.C. – According to the court documents, the 46-year-old defendant from Maryland, later identified as Candice, is now on trial for killing her 71-year-old parent, Margareth, before trying to get rid of the victim’s remains by burning them on a griII while cooking other food in an attempt to try to cover the smell. The defendant’s daughter, 21-year-old SaIia, who reached a plea agreement with prosecutors to testify against her mom is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
The fatal incident occurred at the victim’s home in Washington last year in May. Prosecutors claim the defendant’s daughter witnessed how her mother tried to get rid of her grandparent’s remains at her home by burning them on the griII. The woman was unsuccessful with her attempt and only started a fire that caused her neighbors to call 911. The responding firefighters only extinguished the fire, but didn’t found the victim’s body as the defendant and her daughter brought the victim’s body back inside the home.
During the trial, the defendant’s daughter reportedly testified that she heard her grandparent scream for help. Shortly after, the 46-year-old woman told her daughter that her grandparent fell down the stairs and told her not to go in her room. On one instance, when the defendant was not home, the daughter went inside the victim’s room and reportedly found the victim’s body in a large bin. When the mother returned home, she reportedly told her daughter that they need to use acid to get rid of the DNA.
Several days later, the defendant bought a chalnsaw and used it to dlsmember the victim’s body. The investigation process began after a victim’s friend called 911 and told the dispatcher to perform a welfare check because they haven’t heard the victim for more than a week. The responding officers searched the home and reportedly found bIood and a mechanicaI saw with human remains on it.
