Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, the $149.8 million project stretches from south of Shelby Drive to the Raines/Perkins interchange.

Starting Monday, August 5, work on Lamar Avenue will commence with nightly lane closures from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Lane closures will affect both the northbound and southbound directions of Lamar Avenue, though one lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the closures.

This project represents the second phase of a three-phase initiative to widen the Lamar Avenue corridor.

Phase 1, which extended from the Mississippi State line to Shelby Drive, was completed in the summer of 2023. Phase 2 involves widening Lamar Avenue from a 4-lane divided highway to a 6-lane divided highway from south of Shelby Drive to near the Raines/Perkins Road interchange.

Additionally, this phase includes interchange modifications at the Lamar Avenue intersection with Raines/Perkins Road and the construction of a new interchange at Shelby Drive. The estimated completion date for this phase is July 31, 2028. The third and final phase is projected to begin in 2027.

TDOT appreciates the patience and cooperation of the community as these significant improvements are undertaken.
