Chattanooga, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) recently awarded Maury County a $20,000 check from the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program.

The funds will be used to identify priority sites for redevelopment within the county.

This grant is part of a larger announcement in July, where 36 brownfield redevelopment grants were awarded across the state.

The BRAG program, established under the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, supports both environmental protection and economic development.

It provides local governments and development boards with the resources they need for the investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of blighted properties.

Brownfields are defined as vacant or underutilized properties that may be contaminated, and their remediation is crucial for reducing threats to public health and the environment while also encouraging economic investment.
