Tennessee’s dove season opens on September 1 at noon, marking the start of one of the state’s most cherished outdoor sports traditions
Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, this year’s opening day coincides with a Sunday over the Labor Day weekend.
The season is divided into three segments:
- September 1 – September 28
- October 12 – November 3
- December 8 – January 15, 2025
Outside of the opening day, hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise until sunset.
Doves are prevalent throughout Tennessee, with the highest concentrations found in farming areas. Hunters must possess a valid state hunting license and a Tennessee Migratory Bird Permit while hunting. Permission from landowners is required to hunt on private property.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency oversees dove hunting fields in each of the four regions of the state. The daily bag limit for mourning doves is 15, while there is no limit on collared doves.
Any dove not readily identifiable as a collared dove will be counted as a mourning dove.
Baiting is prohibited, and any auto-loading or repeating shotgun used for dove hunting must be capable of holding no more than three shells.
