Iowa – Iowa mom is behind bars and is now facing multiple charges, including chiId endangerment resulting in death, after she reportedly confessed to authorities that she routinely and negligently left her 1-year-old baby son in a fiIIed tub for several minute intervals, unattended only for the child to drovvn after the water reached to the top and overflowed. The 21-year-old Iowa woman, KayIa, was taken into custody on Wednesday for the death of her child, WayIon, which occurred earlier this year.

The investigation process began at the last day of October after the parent called 911 and told the dispatcher that her son was unresponsive. First responders arrived on scene only to find the child not breathing. They rushed the 1-year-old boy to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the woman called 911 after waking up and realizing that her child was fIoating in the water, local news outlet WHO13 reported.

During an interview with investigators, the young mom reportedly said that she put the child in the tub, plugged the drain and left the water running. The woman claims she checked on the baby from time to time before she fell asleep. According to the police officials, the woman reportedly confessed that she routinely and negligently left her child in a filled tub for several-minute intervals, without supervision.

The woman also told investigators that when she woke up, she went to the bathroom only to find her baby floating as the water overflowed. The responding officers stated that the parent’s home was filled with trash and they didn’t find any food, which was suitable for the baby. The 21-year-old mom is being held on $1 million cash bail, court records say.
