Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, the National Hunting and Fishing Day was established by Congress in 1972 to honor generations of hunters and anglers for their vital role in conservation through hunting, fishing, and boating license sales.

NHFD also aims to encourage participation in outdoor activities and raise public awareness of the link between hunting, fishing, and conservation efforts.

Tennessee’s wildlife and fisheries conservation efforts are primarily funded through these license sales, federal grants from excise taxes on outdoor gear, and a portion of the Real Estate Transfer Tax.

National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated nationwide on the fourth Saturday of September.
