CFD responded to single-engine plane crash on Shallowford Road, two people suffer minor injuries
Chattanooga, TN – According to the officials, two individuals are lucky to be alive after a single-engine plane crash on Shallowford Road in Chattanooga during the evening rush hour on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The crash occurred at approximately 5:51 PM in the 4600 block of Shallowford Road, roughly half a mile from the nearby airport runway.
The plane reportedly experienced engine failure before going down. The crash site, located just down the road from the Shallowford Road and Airport Road intersection, was near heavy traffic. Fortunately, the plane avoided hitting any vehicles. One person had already exited the plane by the time Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) crews arrived on the scene, while the second individual was trapped inside the wreckage, attempting to free himself. Firefighters worked swiftly to extricate him, cutting pieces of metal and removing a portion of the aircraft to free him as the plane was stabilized.
Both individuals were transported to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. A small fuel leak from the wreckage was quickly contained by responders. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.
Responding agencies included the Chattanooga Fire Department, Chattanooga Police Department (CPD), Airport Fire Department, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services (HCEMS), and multiple CFD units, including Engine 15, Squad 13, Squad 7, Engine 6, Engine 8, Engine 21, Ladder 13, and Battalion 1, Battalion 2, and Battalion 3 Red Shift. Additionally, CFD’s Special Operations Division assisted at the scene.
