Clarksville, TN – According to the officials, the academy, designed to enhance safety protocols and professional qualifications, includes participants from Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County Fire Service, and Williamson County Fire Rescue.

The program features 14 students who, upon completing the course, will test for their Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Pro Board certification. The curriculum is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications.

The academy provides participants with a range of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), focusing on topics such as reading buildings and smoke, risk assessment, hazardous energy, and firefighter safety. Students will also explore strategies for preventing firefighter injuries through proactive “prehab” and “rehab” measures.

Additional key features of the program include scenario practice, video reviews of real incidents, and strategies for effective interaction with incident commanders (IC) on scene. The ISO Action Model, a framework for safety officers to guide operations effectively, is also a major focus of the training.

This academy marks a significant opportunity for local firefighters to gain up-to-date knowledge on ISO challenges and trends, further enhancing their ability to protect lives and property during emergencies.
