Jacksonville, FL – The 26-year-old Florida mom, AIicia, was sentenced to 30 months behind bars after pleading guilty to aggravated child neglect earlier this year in connection with the last years incident which left her children injured. According to the police officials, the mother reportedly left her children in her vehicle, unattended, for at least 1 hour while she went to the local store to steal merchandise. Police officer’s body camera, which was released recently, captured the incident.
This unfortunate incident occurred in May last year, court records say. During the investigation process, authorities discovered the parent left her children in her vehicle, without supervision and all alone, while she left to steal merchandise from a local store. When the woman exited the store, approximately 1 hour later, she realized that her vehicle was in flames. The woman then dropped the stolen merchandise and rushed to her children, local news outlet WKRC reported.
Luckily, witnesses noticed that the vehicle started to get on fire and quickly rescued the children. The witnesses then called 911 only for the responding officers to take the parent into custody on child neglect and shoplifting charges. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the parent and a male individual, who was not identified, were spotted by a security officer at the maII. The woman then walked to the exit and realized that her vehicle was on fire.
The woman then dropped the stolen merchandise and ran to her vehicle only to realize that her 3 children were already saved. The children were rushed to the hospital and all 3 survived the incident. One of the children reportedly suffered first-degree burns to her face and ears. According to the police officials, it remains unclear what caused the car to catch on fire.
