Tennessee sees 99% participation rate and higher ACT scores for class of 2024
Chattanooga, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education has released the ACT state results for the graduating class of 2024, highlighting the state’s strong performance in both participation and scores. The participation rate for the 2024 class reached 99%, thanks to dedicated efforts from schools and districts to encourage student involvement in the exam.
Additionally, the state’s average composite ACT score increased from 19.0 in 2023 to 19.3 in 2024, reflecting an overall improvement in college and career readiness. The ACT remains a key indicator for assessing students’ preparedness for postsecondary education and career opportunities.
Tennessee’s award-winning ACT Senior Retake program has been a significant factor in boosting participation and scores. The program allows public high school students to take the ACT twice for free during regular school hours, ensuring all students have the chance to perform their best.
The Department of Education has made the results of the 2023-24 graduating class available on their Data Downloads webpage, where students’ highest ACT scores can be accessed.
“We commend districts and schools for their collective effort in improving the average composite score across the state,” said Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education. “Tennessee strives to support every student in their college and career aspirations, including preparing them for the ACT assessment that can open up additional postsecondary scholarships and opportunities.”
