Chattanooga, TN – Per reports, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October 2024 at 3.3%. This represents a slight increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month while remaining well below the national unemployment rate of 4.1%.

Despite the monthly uptick, Tennessee’s unemployment rate continues to reflect strong labor market conditions. The October rate is two-tenths of a percentage point lower than it was in October 2023.

Tennessee employers added 2,600 nonfarm jobs between September and October, with the education and health services sector accounting for the largest share of growth.

Government and manufacturing sectors also saw notable increases. Over the past year, nonfarm employment across the state grew by 45,200 jobs, led by significant gains in education and health services, trade, transportation, and utilities, as well as mining, logging, and construction.
