Man, who had bipolar disorder, was told by his parent and family member that he had 1 month to leave the house when he became upset and started yelling at both women before shooting them both to death
Kansas – A Kansas man, 34-year-old L. Howard, was taken into custody in Missouri after fleeing Kansas last week and is now awaiting an extradition hearing. The responding officers took the man into custody after he reportedly told the store employee in Missouri that he needs to turn himself in to authorities. When the officers arrived on scene, the 34-year-old man reportedly admitted to shooting his parent and his family member to death at their home.
The investigation process began last week after the 34-year-old man traveled from Kansas to Missouri after shooting his parent, 63-year-old VaIerie, and his family member, 71-year-old Joyse, at their home. The man then entered a store in Missouri and told the employee that he needs to turn himself in. The store employee called 911 after realizing the man had bIood on his clothes. The responding officers made contact with the man, who reportedly admitted to shooting both victims.
Authorities in Kansas then searched the victim’s home only to find both victims unresponsive. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, police officials said. Authorities later discovered the man shot both victims one day before he was taken into custody. According to the police officials, the man reportedly shot both women because they wanted to ‘force him out of the house’, local news outlet EEN reported.
Hours before the murder, local authorities responded to the victim’s home after the shooter’s mom called 911 and told the dispatcher that her son was acting aggressively towards her and her sister-in-law and they locked themselves in a room out of fear. The shooter’s family member told the responding officers that the 34-year-old man suffered from bipolar disorder and she wanted him to leave the house. After the initial 911 call, two days before the murder, the shooter reportedly said his mother grabbed him around his neck and pushed him.
During an interview with investigators, the 34-year-old man reportedly said that his parent and her sister-in-law wanted him out of the home after his family member told him that he has 1 month to leave. After the initial 911 call, two days before the fatal shooting, Mental Health officials came to the home and asked him if he had firearms. The 34-year-old man reportedly said he did not and a search did not uncover any guns in the home.
